Philips Wins U.S. Department of Energy’s Bright Tomorrow Lighting Prize (L Prize)

Philips LED replacement bulbs of different shapes and sizes have been on retail shelves for quite some time now. We were fairly impressed with the AmbientLED A19 12.5W LED bulb that we reviewed earlier this year and just learned that a similar bulb, which uses just 9.7W to produce 910 lumens, was picked by the U.S. Department of Energy as the winner of the Bright Tomorrow Lighting Prize (L Prize) competition.

This high-efficiency A19 LED bulb has an efficacy of 93 lumens/watt and produces a warm 2700K white, similar to an incandescent bulb, with a rated lifetime of 25,000 hours. Expect to see this new LED bulb in stores as soon as early 2012!
